I have been dying to read this book

ever since I finished the novella The Scionless House– which first introduced us to this world and characters. This story picks up right where we left off, we see that an attack has happened and the tensions are high between humans and the vampires. We are also officially introduced to Farley and she is working as an reporter at a small time eZine and gets a lunch meeting with O and Sulla but she has no idea that a simple lunch meeting is going to change the course of her life forever!
I love Farley’s character so much, she is a ballsy strong female character much like all of N’s other female characters! She deals extremely well with how her life dramatically changes– kicking and screaming all the way haha because honestly I would do the same in her place. She goes first to her brother Winston who is a specialist in Vampire Law who agrees to do a little Intel on her situation. What he discovers makes him and her exceedingly nervous and things esclate from there.
We also get deeper into the story of how the rules are in this society and the dnyamic between humans and vampires that we just saw hinted at in the Scionless house. It is a intriguing part of the story because it’s completely original! I have never read any vampire genre story that follows this same setup. So that made it a very exciting read for a massive fan of the genre like myself.
The plot thickens once Farley, Win, Sulla and Octavian reach House Cantelie. The tension between O and Farley is almost palpable and you get the sense that there is a hidden string bringing them together. The rest of this book is intense! I expected as much going from all the action in the novella but I was constantly on edge for most of the Blood Scion! Like maniacally flipping pages and staying up way too late just to get one more page in. Book 2 is shaping up to be just as amazing given how the end of this book goes!

I was just a reporter, trying to stay ahead of my student loans. I knew the rules, and I followed them.

I thought I knew how the world worked—humans lived their petty little lives in the safety of the sun. We loved and fought and—when the sun sank—we scurried behind our walls and lived in fear. That is when the monsters came out to play.

And even in the safety of the sun, we knew who ruled us.

The Houses. And their Scions.

Everyone knows the great Houses and their Scions—they are feared and loved and hated and envied. They are the gods who walk the shadows and rule all of our lives. They are salvation and death.

And somehow, I am one of them.

Twelve Houses. Twelve vampire lines. We ruled from the shadows, and manipulated the world, and when humans came too close to destruction, we intervened.

Every House has a Scion. A fragile, easily broken human that stood shoulder to shoulder with the house Princes and Princesses.

Except for ours. The Ravens, House Cantelie.

We’ve been without a Scion for almost fifteen years.

But that will change…and her life will be mine to protect.
