I looked in the

The door swung

I looked over at my equally beautiful friend. She was holding Simon’s hand, and I felt so happy for her. I looked down at Atticus’s hands as they swung at his sides. I found myself wanting one of his to take one of mine. My eyes followed up his arms, his shoulders, the side of his neck, over his tattoo of Juniper’s name, and settled on his face. I wonder, I thought, if we could ever be as we were, if it we could ever be simple, if he could ever love me. I wondered many more things as we followed the sinking path toward the open iron gates below, toward the stalactites and the stalagmites, reaching toward each other, desperate to connect, just like Atticus and me. They had much time to wait, though. I could only hope that wasn’t the case for Atticus and me. I didn’t know if I wanted to wait anymore. I was tired. Tired of suffering without him, tired of the weight of how I felt for him, tired of dragging it around with me, heavy, and begging to be lifted.

The sun had disappeared as we nestled deeper and deeper into the recesses of God’s earth and we found each other in the dull light of the scattered lanterns in a part of the caverns where the ceilings were barely eight feet high. Etta and Simon had gone ahead about a hundred yards where the cavern lifted a hundred feet into the air, studying the nature surrounding them more quickly than Atticus and I could absorb it.

We came upon a stalactite and a stalagmite separated by mere inches. They too looked tired to me. We circled them twice, each of us on opposite sides. Atticus bent his head to peer at me through the gap. I leaned forward and smiled at him but the smile quickly fell.

“So close yet so far,” I told him quietly, my whisper betraying me and echoing against the cavern walls. It bounced off our ears over and over.

“At least another thousand years,” his answer repeated.

“Such a long time to wait,” I said.

“They’ll get there,” he said.

“Will they, though?” I asked him.

Atticus’s eyes softened and he stood upright. He followed the base of the stalagmite around until he was standing about a yard away from me. He stuck his hands in the pockets of his jeans, his T-shirt straining against his shoulders and biceps.

“You know something, Hazel?” he asked me.

“What’s that, Atticus?”

“When they meet, those two points, when they finally come together after the wars, the battles, the wrong that has surrounded them in the ripples of their existence, after the longing, the misery, the torture of seeing each other as their future complete, that moment, that second, that instant will be their most vindicating time. It will be quiet; it will be unassuming. No one who sees it will be aware of their perfect collision, but it will be an explosion amongst themselves, for only them to know, for only them to feel. It will be proof they can weather anything, absolutely anything that comes their way. Even if it meant the end of the earth, Hazel Stone, it would not mean the end of the world. They are perpetual. They are forever.”

My heart pounded. He took a step closer to me. Another. Another. Until the chasm between us matched theirs.

“I have missed you more than you could possibly comprehend, Atticus.”

His eyes filled with something, an emotion. “I think I could,” he revealed.

Tears spilled over my cheeks. “But I don’t deserve you.”

He shook his head back and forth slowly; the backs of his fingers found my cheeks and dragged across. I turned my head into his skin, desperate to feel him for as long as possible. “No, I don’t deserve you.”

I shook my head in disagreement, tears coming stronger. “But I pushed you away.”

“You were trying to protect yourself, protect Juniper. I don’t blame you for any of it, Haze. It was what it was and it made us who we are.”

I nodded, knowing exactly what he meant. “Can you forgive me, still?”

“Only if you forgive me?”

“Of course. Of course I do. You know I do.”

He placed my face in the palms of his hands. “All is forgiven. All of it. All, Hazel.” He took a deep breath.

“Do you still hate my face?” I asked him.

His head lolled softly side to side. His thumbs started at my forehead and dragged down the sides of my face. “No, Hazel, I no longer see my pain there. I only see my future happiness, our future hope.”

I let out a groan of emotion, unable to hear that without a physical reaction. “I feel guilty admitting this—”

“Don’t. Juniper wouldn’t want that for us, Haze.”

I nodded. “I don’t feel the despair anymore. I feel calm now. I feel the memory without the searing pain. I think— no, I know it’s because of you.”

Atticus brought me into him, wrapping his arms around my shoulders, and I wrapped mine around his neck.

“You’re my best friend, Hazel,” he whispered to me.

“You’re mine, Atticus, my favorite friend, my forever friend.”

Cover Reveal! Low Over High By: J.A. DeRouen

Low Over High (The Over Duet #1)

Cover Design: DCP Designs

Release Date: November 14, 2016

I fancy myself a purveyor of truth, a sifter of lies, a cutter of bullshit. It’s not a gift, but rather, all skill, honed to a razor’s edge after one too many trips down the rabbit hole.

Some may dismiss my talent as misplaced and misguided cynicism, but they’d be wrong. Cliches about hope and faith in mankind are concocted unicorn farts, an effort to keep the dreamers dreaming. Experiences don’t lie—people do.

While I’m not proud of the circumstances that led me to this way of thinking, I respect the journey. The road to enlightenment can be dark and foreboding, but the destination makes it all worthwhile.

But funny thing about the past—it’s a defiant child refusing to stay in time out. No matter how deeply buried, it can always pop up when least expected, and sink its fucking claws into the flesh of your heart. No, not my heart—I no longer have one. I foolishly gave it away years ago, but I still feel the ripping in my chest as I fist the crumpled note left on my porch.

I’ve avoided this day, ran from it, for the past eight years.

And still we meet again.

But to truly understand … to feel my dread and fear my future as I do, it’s important to know what happened in my past.

Or who…

My name is Marlo Rivers, and this is my story of corrupted love.

When her mother’s incessant matchmaking hits an all-time high, Georgie Archibald does what any sensible woman would do: she flees the country.

Seeking refuge in the picturesque seaside village of Vernazza, Italy, Georgie’s only plan is to lie low, gorge herself on gelato, and let the wine and waves wash her troubles away…that is until she wakes up in a bed that belongs to the most romantic-looking man she’s ever seen.

After going out of his way to rescue her, the former London financier turned mysterious recluse makes it clear that despite acting as her white knight, he has no plans to co-star in her fairytale.

But Georgie isn’t asking for his heart—she’s merely intrigued.

After all, Gianluca isn’t just gorgeous—tall and tan from days spent in the sun—his touch sets her world on fire. With him, Georgie experiences the most intoxicating passion she’s ever known, and it only takes a few steamy nights for her to realize that sometimes running away from trouble is the best way to find it.

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Review: A Place In The Sun By: R.S. Grey

When I first read the synopsis for this story I immediately put it on my TBR list! I have read other R.S. Grey books and always love them so I knew I would be in for a treat with this one. As an Italian I always feel a special connection to books set in Italy! But this book is pure sunshine, and fun romance.

Georgie is this free spirit who travels to Italy in search of adventure and maybe love 😉 and from the first few pages I fell in love with her character, we see her at the Colosseum and she is just people watching and totally content with being alone and pondering life (and the couple in line extra curricular activities haha) and you just have to stop and think “wow, she is gonna be quite the heroine! I can’t wait to experience her story” and what a story it is too haha complete with unfortunate motion sickness and some hilarious pop culture references.

Along the way she meets up with the “Village Grump” haha also known as Gianluca or just Luca who is this enigmatic character from the get go, everybody in the small village where he lives is trying to get him involved in a relationship haha much like Georgie’s family is attempting to do for her (which is what lead her to taking an Italian vacay) but we gradually find out why Luca is so hesitant to move on.

But as take no prisoners as Georgie is she is willing to fight against that and that makes their love story so fantastic! Its not perfect, its a messy but gorgeous mess and I think this is the book that only R.S. could do justice. Becuase it displays all of her writing strengths in one story and introduces us LONG time readers of her work to a world of new strengths making it a perfect cinematic introduction to her books for newbies too. I love this story, can it be a movie like now please?!

Review: Garrett By: Karla Sorensen

Review: Garrett (Bachelors of The Ridge #2) By: Karla Sorensen

Amazon Link:

I loved Dylan (book 1) so much it definitely made my top reads of the year list and Garrett was a character I definitely wanted to know more about and thankfully so did a lot of other readers haha and so Karla gave us what we were clamoring for (and then some!) Because there were some unexpected twists in this story I didn’t anticipate at all! And I love those stories that keep us on our toes and Garrett does not disappoint!

Within the first chapter we see more of what drew us to Garrett in the first book, that quirky, sarcastic sense of humor that you immediately have to follow haha and maybe think “okay, this is a little messed up but its presented in such a way that you have to laugh” (the threatenes to gouge his eyes out with a popsicle stick haha so while the mental picture is graphic its funny because you are just like who thinks that way?! (Answer to that is umm well me. . . And apparently Garrett) but hey at least i’m in good company!

The frenemies set up at the beginning between Garrett and Rory is hilarious haha only that kind of romantic tension can be steamy but edgy and hilarious all at the same time, because in some scenes Rory reduces him to acting like an overgrown toddler on a tantrum. But gradually their bickering turns to something more and the sparks are instantaneous! By the time we get to the chapter of the BBQ at his house things are reaching a fever pitch which leads to one of the most adorable parts of the book haha.

This story took some turns I didn’t quite expect especially about 86% ish in. Its a little bit later in the book for conflict so it made me wonder if they would get it all together by the end! But I trusted Karla’s judgement and just waiting and how she brought everything full circle made for a nail biter haha.

Release Blitz! Garrett By: Karla Sorensen

Title: Garrett

Series: Bachelors of the Ridge #2

Author: Karla Sorensen

Release Date: Oct 21, 2016

The one thing Garrett Calder and Aurora Anderson have in common is that they absolutely hate each other.

Garrett has the job that Aurora has worked for and wanted for years and it was handed to him on a silver platter, just like everything else in his life. The fact that he manages everything with the most annoyingly handsome smile on his equally annoying, handsome face is just icing on the freaking cake.

Aurora is not only the most beautiful, but the smartest, most infuriating woman Garrett has ever had the misfortune of meeting. Her sharp tongue and inability to be charmed by him makes her somehow more maddening, and she’s never let him get away with a single thing, not for the eight years they’ve worked together.

Garrett and Aurora are pushed into a situation neither of them want to be in— forced to work together for twelve months or risk losing everything. Twelve months where they can’t kill each other. Twelve long months, and only one of them will be left standing at the end. And in the process of surviving it—and each other—they’ll discover that there’s a very fine line between love and hate.

Damn him, ooooooh, damn him and that highly amused grin that he gave me in answer. That’s what made it so much worse. Garrett Calder was handsome. He was tall and muscled with broad shoulders that looked (I could only admit this in my head, because I’d likely choke on the words if they came out of my mouth) incredible in a suit. Oh, I’d have liked it so much better if he was a hunchback with two teeth and pockmarks covering the left side of his body.

You know, have the outside match the inside.

“But my old man does?”

With brisk movements, I straightened my blue cotton blouse and sniffed. “Yes.”

Garrett leaned up against the door behind him, clearly not planning on going anywhere. Ass.

“How come?”

“You realize that I don’t have to answer you, right? It’s my prerogative who gets to call me a nickname and who doesn’t.”

When he snorted, I risked a look at him under my lashes. Still smiling that stupid smile. It was one of the non-professional things that I envied about him. The ease with which he smiled and joked, making the people around him happy in turn. The people who I reported to and the people who worked under me all respected me and liked me. But we weren’t exactly friends. We didn’t swap jokes or secrets.

But I’d take respect any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. So I straightened and faced him, giving him the full weight of my annoyed expression. “What?”

“Nothing.” He shook his head, completely amused by my snippy response.

“You are so aggravating.”

“And you are so defensive, Rory.”

I narrowed my eyes and he smothered a laugh. “I’m not defensive. I’m simply explaining to you that it’s my right to recognize that certain people are deserving of informalities over others.”

He clutched a hand to his heart. “So many big words. Stop.”

When I lifted an eyebrow, he gave me a mildly apologetic look. “Okay, fine. I’ll stick to Aurora.”

“Thank you,” I conceded. “Can I leave now? This kind of proximity to you gives me hives.”

Dylan (#1) – Released June 2016

On sale for $0.99 through Oct 22

Dylan Steadman has never seen his stubbornness as a bad thing. It's always been easy for him to make up his mind and stick with it. It's why he works a lot, why he doesn't need to make time for a girlfriend, and why he recently decided to move across the country for a new job. His brothers and sister and happily settled, and now that all eyes have turned on him, he needs a change. He does not need a relationships, and moving to Colorado lets him breathe. What he didn't see coming was Kat, the much-too-young-for-him employee at his new restaurant.

Kat Perry doesn't have a family. She doesn't even really have friends, but that's by her choice. Her new manager, Dylan, has all the things that she should avoid: the muscles, the eyes, the smile, and the kind of white-knight syndrome that she doesn't know what the frick to do with. Dylan should be easy enough to disregard since she's managed to hold people at arm's length her whole life, especially when a relationship is the very last thing she wants

But she can't ignore him, not when he befriends her, and definitely not when they tap into combustible chemistry that threatens to burn down everything around them. So instead of fighting it, they come to an agreement- just friends with a bunch of benefits on the side. Easy, right? Not exactly.

Especially when the heart gets involved.

**Dylan is a 70k romantic comedy with a mild/medium heat level. It is a spin-off of the Three Little Words series and can be read as a standalone.**
