This was a fantastic fantasy read! It was fast paced with a richly detailed world and characters that drew you into the story. It beings with brothers Hyden and Gerard Skyler harvesting Hawkling eggs as is part of their clan’s tradition. When the younger brother Gerard was making the egg harvest on his older brother’s behalf he discovers a ring high up the cliff in a old nest. He finishes out the harvest and brings his brother the eggs and then something unexpected happens. An old legend comes to pass when one of the eggs hatches despite being placed in keep moss (which is supposed to keep them from hatching) and this begins quite the adventure!
As any one familiar with the genre knows there has to be a epic journey or quest and this story is no different in that aspect but it does take some interesting twists and turns which even as a immense fan of the genre I thought were new and something I didn’t expect and that kept me motivated to keep reading just to see where the author was going to take us next.
The political intrigue with the death of the King and the rise to power his son takes made for a interesting storyline that at first I kind of discounted as it happens in quite a few other novels but I liked that the author added some different elements and that made a used trope new and exciting again.
All in all I throughly enjoyed this read and cannot wait to pick up the next book just to get more of this authors unorthodox but enthralling story telling
